The unusual space we created gives constant glimpses of the sky and surroundings as you walk up and down the ancient stone steps. In this property, old and new sit happily together in a sylvan setting which belies its middle-of-town location.
For this project we teamed up again with a large London-based practice which valued our design skills, planning expertise and collaborative approach. Our brief as architects was to create a large block of high-quality accommodation for students, including self-contained and twin apartments.
Our client needed a new private dwelling to replace an existing bungalow which was leaning severely, having been built on soft, wet ground with inadequate foundations. Its position is fantastic, in a secluded valley with views over Maenporth Beach and across to Falmouth Bay.
These apartments are constructed within the empty space above the shops in the heart of Falmouth. The unused space has been repurposed into a complex, 3D jigsaw to create light and airy places to live.

A private client based in Yorkshire asked us to reimagine his Cornish family home, in which he remembered spending many happy summers as a child. This large house, in a beautiful position overlooking the beach, had been built to seventies standards. It had become tired, cold and damp, and was crying out for an upgrade.
Our unusual design, with a complex geometry made possible by our sophisticated 3D software, deliberately avoids any hint of creating a pastiche of the original building’s style.
Commissioned by a large London-based provider, this project involved remodelling a disused office tower as student accommodation and adding an extension to increase the number of rooms.
We individually designed 12 different homes, including apartments and contemporary townhouses. Each was first constructed as a 3D computer model, and then we fitted all 12 together to form an integrated development.

A large ballroom would be essential for many special occasions, and no existing space would fit the bill, but knocking through between rooms was not an option in a Grade I listed building.

An attractive development of four townhouses and four two-bedroomed apartments, with enviable river views, which are modern but totally in keeping with their location.
Key design aims were to connect the building with its potentially lovely garden and to capitalise on the property’s outstanding views across the Fal Harbour.
